Vietnam to Indonesia

Yogyakarta, Indonesia

I arrived in Indonesia two days ago and that plane ride felt like a huge transition. It was a feeling I hadn’t had since I started travelling or even since I graduated. It felt like a new beginning.

I honestly wasn’t ready to leave Vietnam, but I was getting to the point where I was also itching to feel a new place. Indonesia, although not the same, has been interesting to say the least. I definitely don’t feel a connection like I did with Vietnam, but it’s a different place with a new set of challenges. I landed in Jakarta and stayed for a day. Almost anyone, including the people that live there will tell you there’s nothing special to see there. The night after arriving, I took a night train to Yogyakarta where I am right now. After, I’ll go to Mt. Bromo and Ijen Crater, which are farther down south. In the next 4 days, I’ll make it to Bali! Ever since leaving the mountains, I’ve been craving to see nature again. Trekking and getting time on the beach (and hopefully the chance to do lots of yoga) will be just what I need.

Today, I went to a large Buddhist temple called Borobudur. I’m not a huge fan of having to pay for temples, but I heard this one was definitely worth seeing. When I went inside, I spent most of my time talking and interacting with high school students from Jakarta. One thing that I’ve found through traveling is that I love interacting with the youth in each country. It’s so different, but the enthusiasm and liveliness is always the same.

Anyways, I’m excited for the next place. It definitely was time for change.

With Love,
